This unit is designed to develop the analytical skills that a high-school student need for a more in-depth study of literary texts. He will learn about rhythm, alliteration, rhyme, poetic inversion, voice and line lengths and endings. He will examine poems that do not rhyme and learn how to compare and contrast poetry. By the end of this unit the student should be able to have an awareness of the role of analysis to inform appreciation and understanding of poetry, and to be able to identify and discuss the main analytical concepts used in analysing poetry.
