However, deploying and developing QoS routing in the legacy Internet is difficult. Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) facilitates the deployment of QoS routing, due to its separation of functions between the control and forwarding plane. Developing QoS routing raises scalability issues within very large networks.

Greediness control algorithm for multimedia streaming in wireless local area networks

This work investigates the interaction between the application and transport layers while streaming multimedia in a residential Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN). Inconsistencies have been identified that can have a severe impact on the Quality of Experience (QoE) experienced by end users. This problem arises as a result of the streaming processes reliance on rate adaptation engines based on congestion avoidance mechanisms, that try to obtain as much bandwidth as possible from the limited network resources.

Power analysis of packet classification on programmable network processors

Packet classification algorithms are increasingly being used to provide security and Quality of Service guarantees. These algorithms are usually implemented on power hungry programmable network processors, which are used in devices such as core routers and firewalls. This paper compares the energy used by five best-known algorithms Recursive Flow Classification, HiCuts, HyperCuts, Extended Grid-of-Tries with Path Compression and Tuple Space Search with Pruning.

Integrating sensor streams in pHealth networks

Personal Health (pHealth) sensor networks are generally used to monitor the wellbeing of both athletes and the general public to inform health specialists of future and often serious ailments. The problem facing these domain experts is the scale and quality of data they must search in order to extract meaningful results. By using peer-to-peer sensor architectures and a mechanism for reducing the search space, we can, to some extent, address the scalability issue. However, synchronisation and normalisation of distributed sensor streams remains a problem in many networks.

Modeling and evolving biochemical networks: insights into communication and computation from the biological domain

This paper is concerned with the modeling and evolving
of Cell Signaling Networks (CSNs) in silico. CSNs are
complex biochemical networks responsible for the coordination of cellular activities. We examine the possibility to computationally evolve and simulate Artificial Cell Signaling Networks (ACSNs) by means of Evolutionary Computation techniques. From a practical point of view, realizing and evolving ACSNs may provide novel computational paradigms for a variety of application areas.

Chemical species concentration measurement via wireless sensors

This paper describes studies carried out to investigate the viability of using wireless cameras as a tool in monitoring changes in air quality. A camera is used to monitor the change in colour of a chemically responsive polymer within view of the camera as it is exposed to varying chemical species concentration levels. The camera captures this image and the colour change is analyzed by averaging the RGB values present. This novel chemical sensing approach is compared with an established chemical sensing method using the same chemically responsive polymer coated onto LEDs.
