Perceptions of Kuwaiti EFL Student-Teachers towards EFL Writing and Methods of Teaching and Learning EFL writing

This thesis focuses on the perceptions of Kuwaiti EFL student-teachers to methods of teaching and learning EFL writing in Kuwait, and the extent to which their perceptions of EFL writing may be affected by these methods. It draws on the finding of ten interviews with student-teachers from one of the higher educational colleges in Kuwait. Students were asked to describe how they perceive EFL writing and methods of teaching and learning practices in their EFL writing classrooms.

Web-Based New Literacies and EFL Curriculum Design in Teacher Education: A Design Study for Expanding EFL Student Teachers’ Language-Related Literacy Practices in an Egyptian Pre-service Teacher Education Programme

Every programme is downloadable as an mp3 or podcast and features an expert commentary on that week's grammar focus. The website contains interactive quizzes, grammar tables and an area for student practise using the structures.

Implementing collaborative strategic reading (CSR) in an EFL context in Taiwan

The purposes of this study are to investigate the impact of Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on Taiwanese university students’ reading comprehension, explore the process of how they collaborate for text comprehension, and examine their perspectives of the CSR intervention. The participants were 110 students from two intact classes who had low-intermediate to intermediate level of English.

Rating English language learners’ written performance

The study focuses on the investigation of the process during which raters of EFL written performance make their decisions. It consists of a pilot and a main study, each of which concentrates on assessment of writing. The rationale is to detect the decision-making processes that raters follow, which can be used for training raters, and with which the reliability of rating can be improved. The pilot study is based on data collected during a large-scale language proficiency assessment of two age groups from learners of English and German languages.

Re-using features of English as a foreign language (EFL) materials for special needs students of the same age group

This paper identifies a lack of age-appropriate literacy software for dyslexic teenagers in Irish classrooms and
investigates the features of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) software that could be helpful to dyslexic
students. There are often two distinct special learner groups within the same classroom: special needs students
with reading difficulties in their native language and EFL students. While there are clear differences between
these two groups, there is some overlap in their linguistic difficulties, e.g. spelling.

The use of text structure among EFL Thai students and its effects on their reading comprehension

Within the framework of the interactive theoretical model of comprehension and learning, this study investigated the use of text structure among EFL Thai students and its effects on their reading comprehension. It was designed with an underlying assumption that readers who possess the previously acquired knowledge of the organizational patterns of text will be aware of text structure and will utilize it as their strategic approach to text processing. This use of text structure, or the structure strategy, will therefore enhance their comprehension and learning from text.

Arab EFL learners' translation: A linguistic appraisal

The study was principally designed to gauge irritability and comprehensibility as communicative effects on native American speakers of English. The data corpus comprised of 100 samples of semantic and syntactic deviant sentences excerpted from texts translated by EFL Arab learners. These sentences were rated by ten native American speakers of English. The responses of the ten raters were quantitatively analyzed on a bi-polar 5-point scale; the results were tested using three statistical methods: t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient.

Teacher talk: The language of nonnative teachers in Thai EFL classrooms

This study is an exploratory investigation and description of teacher talk in EFL classrooms. The major goal is to investigate the use of teachers' questions in order to determine their patterns of occurrence in the classroom. The study examines whether certain forms and functions of questions are more prevalent than others and also whether there is a relationship between the phases in the lesson and the type of questions asked. This study also aims to identify the interactional strategies that teachers employ with students in the classroom.
