Study of heat and mass transfer from sugarcane juice for evaporation

The study of heat and mass transfer during natural convection heating for preparation of Jaggery was carried out for the open and closed conditions. An indoor experiment was conducted for simulation of developed thermal model for heat and mass transfer for maximum evaporation. Evaporated water was condensed at the inner surface for the closed system as fresh water. The effect of different rates of heating (varying voltage) and heat capacity of sugar cane juice on heat and mass transfer were also carried out.

Evaluation of convective heat and mass transfer for pool boiling of sugarcane juice

In this paper, an attempt has been made to estimate the convective heat and mass transfer for pool boiling of sugarcane juice during preparation of jaggery. An indoor experiment was conducted to measure (i) the mass of evaporated water, (ii) the temperature of the sugarcane juice, (iii) the relative humidity above the sugarcane juice surface and (iv) the temperatures at the bottom and side of the pot etc. at intervals of 10 min for a given heat input. A regression analysis has been performed by using the experimental data in the correlation of Rohsenow for pool boiling.

Convective heat transfer coefficient of crops in forced convection drying -an experimental study

In this paper, a simulation study has been conducted for determination of the convective heat transfer coefficients of six crops, namely, green chillies, green peas, white gram, onion, potato and cauliflower under forced convection drying. Data obtained from experimentation under open and closed simulated conditions have been used to determine values of the coefficients C and n and, consequently, convective heat transfer coefficient. The data have also been analysed in terms of per cent uncertainty.

Heat and mass transfer from the mantle: heat flow and He-isotope constraints

Terrestrial heat flow density, q, is inversely correlated with the age, t, of tectono-magmatic activity in the Earth's
crust (Polyak and Smirnov, 1966; etc.). «Heat flow-age dependence» indicates unknown temporal heat sources in
the interior considered a priori as the mantle-derived diapirs. The validity of this hypothesis is demonstrated by
studying the helium isotope ratio, 3He/4He = R, in subsurface fluids. This study discovered the positive correlation
between the regionally averaged (background) estimations of R- and q-values (Polyak et al., 1979a).

Effect of size and material of a semi-cylindrical condensing cover on heat and mass transfer for distillation

The rate of distillate depends mainly on operating temperature, shape and material ofthe condensing cover. Further, it is important to study the behaviour of heat and mass transfer relations as a function of operating temperature, shape and material. For the present study two sizes of semi-cylindrical condensing covers with characteristic dimensions of 0.14 cm and 0.07 cm were used. The materials most common for condensing covers for distillation used were aluminium and copper. The studies were carried out under controlled environmental conditions.

Study of heat and mass transfer in indoor conditions for distillation

An indoor simulation study was carried out to evaluate heat and mass transfer relation for a semi-cylindrical metallic (opaque) condensing cover for higher yields at different operating temperatures under free and forced modes of operation. The objective is to design a distillation unit for higher yield for commercialization, particularly in India. Experiments have been conducted for the operating temperature range of 40°C to 80°C in a steady-state condition by using constant temperature bath.
