Managing business dynamics with adaptive supply chain portfolios

Practitioners and scholars readily agree that firms need to frequently adapt their supply chain portfolios to respond to today's rapidly evolving business dynamics. Adapting a well established supply chain portfolio, however, may involve high costs and expose a firm to unforeseeable risks. In this paper we address this issue. We differentiate business dynamics into product portfolio dynamics and global business dynamics and classify supply chain adaptation into high, medium and low.

By actively managing payment terms and working capital requirements, managers can influence financial performance and achieve significant cost savings. However, measures to improve financial performance implicitly restrict and influence operational performance. In our research we elaborate on the benefits of equally considering both operational and financial aspects in decision-making for the physical and financial supply chain.

A three-echelon supply chain with price-only contracts and sub-supply chain coordination

This paper studies coordination in a three-echelon supply chain and examines the impact of sub-supply chain coordination (sub-coordination). Our analysis is based on the price-only contracts that are commonly used in practice. The model is of the newsvendor type. We consider the following cases: no coordination between any members of the supply chain (decentralized), coordination between only two members (sub-supply chain coordination) and coordination of the whole supply chain as a benchmark.

Second annual state of logistics survey for South Africa: Defining research priorities for developmental logistics

This survey reflects the supply-chain innovation of the chemicals, processed foods and logistics service provider industries.

Models, methods and algorithms for supply chain planning

An outline of supply chains and differences in the problem types is given. The motivation for a generic framework is discussed and explored. A conceptual model is presented along with it application to real world situations; and from this a database model is developed. A MIP and CP implementations are presented; along with alternative formulation which can be use to solve the problems. A local search solution algorithm is presented and shown to have significant benefits.

In recent years increasing attention has been given to continual environmental performance improvement. Although we support the thesis that organisations are able to continuously improve their environmental performance, we state that truly higher levels of environmental care are reached only via fundamental organisational changes. We conclude that, in the literature, attention to a direct link between two important dimensions of corporate environmental improvement¿environmental management concepts and environmental performance¿lags behind.
