Basic types of clause complexes and discourse connectives: A comparative study between Chinese and English with pedagogical implications

This study concerns itself with a comparison of coordinate and subordinate conjunction in Chinese and English. It focuses on clause complexes in the two languages and the explicit and implicit discourse connectives associated with them. Its purpose is to find similarities and differences between the two languages, with the latter serving as a basis from which to predict possible areas of difficulty for Chinese learners of English.

Network coding, multi-packet reception, and feedback : design tools for wireless broadcast networks

In this thesis, we address the combination of three technologies in wireless broadcast networks: network coding, multi-packet reception (MPR) and feedback. We will primarily discuss the performance of a single-hop network, both with and without these technologies. A single-hop network can be used as a building block for larger and more topologically diverse networks and provides a basis for analyzing the interaction of these mechanisms.

Female activity choice in a dual context: an integrated model for formal and informal sectors in cameroon

The estimation of models of activity choice in LDCs (Less Developed Countries) is complicated by specific features of labour markets. In particular, entry into activity sectors is often restricted and worked hours are rationed. Moreover, in the informal sector workers may obtain their work rewards directly through technology with decreasing returns to labour. In this situation, complex structural modelling is often reputed infeasible.

The large-scale application of chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (CAHs) has resulted in many cases of groundwater contamination. Contaminated groundwater can be remediated by pump-and-treat: the groundwater is pumped to the surface and treated. The groundwater can be treated in bioreactors, in which the contaminants are biodegraded. Since extracted groundwater is often anaerobic, it has to be oxygenated in order to allow aerobic biodegradation of the contaminants.
