Market Competition and Lower Tier Incentives

The relationship between competition and performance-related pay has been analysed in single-principal-single-agent models. While this approach yields good predictions for managerial pay schemes, the predictions fail to apply for employees at lower tiers of a firm’s hierarchy. In this paper, a principal-multi-agent model of incentive pay is developed which makes it possible to analyze the effect of changes in the competitiveness of markets on lower tier incentive payment schemes.

Fiscal health of selected Indian cities

fiscal problems faced by five urban agglomerations in India,
namely, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, and Pune. It
analyzes the fiscal health of the five urban agglomerations,
quantifies their revenue capacities and expenditure needs,
and draws policy recommendations on the means to reduce the
gaps between revenue raising capacities and expenditure
needs.

Senegal's infrastructure : a continental perspective

Addressing the problem requires first a diagnosis of the
market at the city level and a recognition that government
interventions, rather than thwarting the operations of the
market, should seek to make it operate better. This can
substantially reduce the subsidies required to assist low
income households to attain decent living standards.

Sunk costs, market contestability, and the size distribution of firms

This paper offers a new economic
explanation for the observed inter-industry differences in
the size distribution of firms. The empirical
estimates--based on three temporal (1982, 1987, and 1992)
cross-sections of the four-digit United States manufacturing
industries--indicate that increased market contestability,
as signified by low sunk costs, tends to reduce the
dispersion of firm sizes.

Fact or artefact : the impact of measurement errors on the farm size - productivity relationship

measurement error in the inverse farm size and productivity
relationship. By making use of data from a nationally
representative household survey from Uganda, in which
self-reported land size information is complemented by plot
measurements collected using Global Position System devices,
the authors reject the hypothesis that the inverse
relationship may just be a statistical artifact linked to
problems with land measurement error.
