was first proposed at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, in January of 2007 under the project name "Knowledge Hub (KHUB)" when one of the main issues discussed was the problem of reach and coverage of education in the world.

During the work session titled “Globalization of the University: Collaboration promoting faculty development and the use of technology,” the operational mechanisms needed to help meet the educational demands of emerging economies through innovative educational solutions and models were discussed (TT-ITESM, 2007) ** , and then accepted at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, in January of 2008 (CNN, 2008) **.

Since March 2008, has remained as an initiative open to anyone wishing to find resources and learning materials.
